KidMin Choir Curriculum is a brand-new concept. When I created Little JAM Sessions, I didn’t realize this hadn’t been done before. Curriculum for kids’ ministry choirs is about helping littles understand what they’re singing. It’s great to sing the ABCs but until you understand letters and words and paragraphs, it’s mostly just cute. Our desire is for kids to understand the lyrics and are then able to intentionally worship through music. So many adults right now are deconstructing their faith journeys. Children’s choir curriculum sets up a path of discernment that makes later deconstruction unnecessary as they’re already learning to dig deeper into their faith. Our innovative concept ensures that they aren’t simply mimicking, they’re learning.
Multifaceted
Children learn differently. Most kids lean into audio, kinesthetic, or visual methods of learning. Early Years TV has a great article on this. Little JAM Sessions incorporates hearing, doing, and seeing into every lesson so no matter the learning style of any individual, they are receiving the message of God’s love. Within JAM — Jesus, Art, Music — multiple styles are used. Jesus Session is a Bible story and is typically audio and visual. Art Session is craft time which uses kinesthetic and visual. And Music Session is the choir portion and uses audio and kinesthetic. Overlapping the three styles and the three sessions provides a multifaceted, fun, and effective learning experience.
Approachable
KidMin choir is a ministry that can fall under many umbrellas and can be led by people of varying skills. Little JAM Sessions is fully comprehensive curriculum that is easy to teach and fun to learn. Each lesson comes with a script, art-supply list, craft instructions, sheet music (in a kid-friendly range), and a website with tips and tutorials for teachers. Our foundational curriculum is for the preschool age, so the songs are simple and the lessons are short, making it very approachable. There are even three versions of every craft from coloring sheets to actual crafts and instructions and templates for all of them so leaders can decide based on time, budget, and skill.
Intergenerational
Parents and caregivers are important. Little JAM Sessions includes an intergenerational Spotify playlist for each theme full of fun music the whole family will enjoy. There are also take-home activities each week to keep parents engaged and a blog-style website for caregivers to learn from and encourage one another.
