For all the little princesses and superheroes
Did you know Little JAM Sessions offers at-home devotionals? Our Fam-JAM curriculum has six week devotionals for boys – Little Superhero – and for girls –Little Princess. Both are downloadable and include Bible lessons, studies of Christian role models, crafts, and music playlists. Our current devotional is all about kindness.
This is a fun family devotional and great for this time of year when littles are often dressing as princesses and superheroes!

Halloween – what do we do?
There are so many thoughts about what is holy behavior regarding Halloween and I’m not here to preach. But, here are my thoughts. If you celebrate Halloween, be the house that gives the best treats. If you go to a fall festival, invite non-churched friends. If you avoid the holiday altogether, do so with grace.
But here’s what I think is even more important during this spooky season …

Are we teaching our kids to follow Jesus out of fear or trust?
Fear says, “If I don’t do this, I’ll be in trouble,” “If I sin, I’ll go to hell,” “If I mess up, God won’t love me anymore.”
Trust says, “I will obey because Jesus loves me and has the best plan for me.”
Fear can lead to shame.
Trust can lead to hope.
Yes,  there is sin. Yes, we mess up. Yes, there is consequence. But God doesn’t want forced obedience because we’re afraid of him. He wants our love and devotion because we trust  that he deserves it! God won’t ever stop loving you – NO MATTER WHAT.

Think of your kids. If you teach your littles to brush their teeth because if they don’t they’ll be in trouble and will have to go to the scary dentist, they may brush their teeth out of fear. If you teach your littles to brush their teeth because it’s important to keep your teeth strong and healthy, they will probably trust you and brush their little teeth.
When your littles are grown, and no longer under your guidance, which of these do you think will make them more likely to brush their teeth? The idea is to want them to brush their teeth and want them to understand its benefits and want them to trust that you knew what was best for them.
God does a lot of parenting with us as well. And he wants us to trust him, not fear him.
Trusting, not fearing
