KidMin Choir vs KidMin Worship

What’s the Difference?

The Oxford Dictionary describes worship as “the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.” And, while that can mean many things to many people, we generally think of our worship time as a time of singing. Music is a beautiful expression of worship. Singing praises to God can be something we do in private at our homes or it can be done all together as congregational worship. However it’s done, it’s really not optional. The scriptures tell us that if we don’t worship God, the rocks will do it instead. We do not want to be a people replaced by rocks!! Worship is mandatory. How we worship is not. But we must teach our kiddos about worship. they need to know how and why and who to worship.

Some churches keep the children in with the adults for worship time and some separate them out for their own worship time. Do what works best for your church! KidMin Worship is when the children have their own worship time in a kids’ setting. This is sometimes led by adults, sometimes there are kids leading worship (I personally love this!), sometimes there are audio tracks and lyric screens, sometimes it’s a combination of these.

However it’s done, it’s a time for kids to worship Jesus together and that is important.

KidMin Choir is different. KidMin Choir is a set apart time for kids to learn specific songs that will then be presented to the congregation or for the others in the children’s ministry.

Which should our church do?

My vote is both!!However, if you have to pick one, choose KidMin Worship because ALL kids (and adults) should be involved in worship!

How do we get started?

Sing! Get your kiddos singing. If your church likes hymns, great. You prefer video screens and a band, great. You like the old-school Sunday school songs, great. Any and all of these are viable ways for children to worship God. If you don’t have worship  during your KidMin time, now is the time to start! While singing is — clearly — my favorite form of worship, it is, by all means, not the only form. Creative arts are a great way to worship — paint, dance, etc. Even doing whatever God called you to do can be a form of worship. But these are usually individual moments of worship. For group worship, singing is the easiest! And, oh, how beautiful it is to hear children praising God together!!
