Friendship is part of God’s plan

In God’s true book, the Bible, he has lots to say about friendship. Proverbs 18:24 says, “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

So, having loads of friends — on social media or ILR —isn’t the goal, but rather, having good friends is. So how do we go about helping our preschoolers — and really, all of us — go about finding good friends? What even is a good friend? How can we be a good friend and help our littles to be as well?

Do we really need friends?

Yes. Yes, we do. And our kids do too. Here are some reasons why from my recent Instagram post (follow me HERE.)
Friends are good for us
Emotionally
Physically
Mentally
Spiritually

Emotionally

Friendship is a crucial aspect of our emotional wellbeing. We need people to share our journey with us. Adults, if you’re struggling with this yourself, consider joining a group at your church. It’s a great place to make friends. For kids, friends are fantastic for telling each other about their happy times and their sad times. I’ve often seen littles as young as two or three comforting each other.

Physically

It’s certainly more fun to run and jump with a friend. Consider yourself, isn’t it better to go for a walk or the gym with a friend? Our health is improved with friends.

Mentally

Friends inspire our learning. Friends encourage us to think. They challenge our preconceived ideas and make learning fun.

Spiritually

Our relationship with Jesus Christ is personal, but our spiritual growth is more of a group project. We share this journey by praying together and worshipping together and studying God’s word together. Kids can absolutely do this too.
