It’s 95 degrees as I’m writing this, but guess what, Christmas is just around the corner! Maybe you’ve never done a kids’ choir before or maybe you’re looking for something for your choir of littles that will take them beyond memorization and into learning and beyond learning into worship.
That’s what Little JAM Sessions is all about. As it says in Psalm 47, “Sing praises to God; sing praises with understanding,” and my passion is for kids to not only be part of a fun choir but to also understand what they’re singing about. So, of course, Little JAM Sessions kidmin choir curriculum has original choir songs but it also has Bible lessons, crafts, and take-home activities that help preschool-aged littles understand what they’re singing about enabling them to not just mimic, but to worship.
So, as Christmas approaches, I want you to know about three different resources that may be helpful to you.
Little JAM Sessions: Action is a six-week unit on the nativity characters. It is appropriate for Christmas or Advent and includes a song called “Gift to You.” Littles will learn about Mary, Joseph, the wisemen, angels, shepherds, and — of course — baby Jesus through Bible lessons and crafts.
Fam JAM Sessions: Songs of Advent is a download-and-print six-week at-home devotional for families of littles. There are music playlists, crafts and Bible lessons centered around six of the songs in the Bible. This is a great resource to give to families.
Our newest Christmas resource is Little JAM Sessions: Jesus’ Birthday. This is fun take on party planning for the greatest birthday in history. Choir song “Birthday King” is included, along with crafts and Bible lessons to bring meaning to the truth of Jesus’ birthday. As this song is about preparation, it is also suitable for anytime during advent.
Christmas and the weeks preparing for it is a wonderful time to feature a children’ choir. If you’re new to kids’ choirs, preschool is the perfect age to start with. You can read more about why in my Pro Tip article.
